As you may have noticed (that is, if I still actually have any readers to this blog.. *smile*), this blog has been quite dormant for some time. The reason? In August 2008 I decided to take some time off to travel, moving from a full time to part time role with my firm. I’m single and still somewhat young… so why not travel a bit?

I am an avid rock climber (which you can read about on the CragBaby, a crag being an outcropping of rock and CragBaby being the name of my chihuahua) and decided to go on a 9 month rock climbing road trip. I am currently hitting month 6 and am temporarily located in Hueco Tanks State Park in El Paso, TX.

Though I will probably still travel for 3 months, I figure it is about time to pull the WasatchGirl out of dormancy, striving to write about something other than climbing. =) Hopefully a new post will come to fruition within the week’s end.

Aahhhhh, it feels nice to be back.

The latest version of WordPress came out a couple weeks ago but I was stalling on upgrading due to a warning my hosting company posted. After doing two different types of backups, one through the hosting service and one through a shell script Rob wrote, I decided to take the plunge and do the WordPress upgrade. Two painless seconds later, I was good to go.

The whole layout felt different and amazingly better. Easier to navigate, so far everything just worked, etc. I was so psyched with the fresh version, I figured I might as well look into all the side ideas that I had been meaning to get around to, i.e. google analytics, google webmasters and some SEO. (Thanks Jansen and Rob for your help)

I am really starting to enjoy this blogging / living hooked to my computer lifestyle. =)

I thought it would be a good adventure and learning experience to transition from the Blogger platform to my own domains using WordPress. I definitely have learned a fair amount and probably am in tech support debt to my friend Rob. Besides some small tweaks and possible color swaps, the sites are live and I will commence posting.

I started blogging last year as I watch many web2.0 startups and enjoy tinkering with the latest ideas. Yet tinkering was exactly what I was doing on my blogs as I found it hard to create a digital voice, a move that seemed bold and extremely self-confident. However, the experience was extremely positive as friends continued to read, strangers turned into friends, and slowly but surely a small community started to form around my blogs and the blogs I follow.

This year, along with the platform transition, I want to try and take my blogs to the next level, producing posts on a regular basis and really focusing on specific areas of venture capital and web2.0. The hope is to post a Wasatch Girl entry a week and get away from just dipping my toe in the blogosphere water.

Thank you for visiting my new site and for taking the time to read. I would love to hear your thoughts through comments or a personal email to wasatchgirl at gmail.com.

It is Saturday morning and I woke up early due to my little pooch needing to go outside. I have been swamped at work lately and haven’t had the time to catch up on my blogs. So, this morning I thoroughly enjoyed spending some time reading the feeds and posting up comments.

It made me wonder how most people organize their readers and the order in which they read the posts. I have mine organized with general labels such as friends, vc, technology, utah, entrepreneur, fun, business, stocks and news. And I notice that the most important blogs to me are my friend blogs. Ummm… yes, I should probably read all the new technology blogs first, but sorry, my friends win out. The funny thing is, there are a couple blogs that I find so useful that I purposefully list them as ‘friends’ in order not to overlook the new postings. One such blog is LifeHacker. If you haven’t checked out this site, you should.

After friends, I read the labeled posts in this order: news, technology and vc. I notice that certain labels like business never get read because I skip right to friends. And for some reason I skip certain labels, for instance Utah (sorry Utah bloggers), unless I have a lot of spare time.

I feel as if I need to re-label or think of a new system to better utilize my time and increase the realm of blog posts I read.

Any suggestions?

I have continually contemplated why I have this urge, when deep down I know it is because I read blogs all day long in my Web2.0 realm, yet feel like I have nothing to say on my own little blog. In fact, this is my third attempt (yes, you read that right) to try and get myself to write. It has taken me so long as I feel like I have nothing intelligent to say.

I have no idea where this blog will go, if it will be web2.0 based, climbing based or merely just some musings from the 1123 in Salt Lake City, but here goes.
