I have noticed that I am a late adopter to many of these Web2.0 sites. It seems that most VC’s understand the product right away and jump on board; however, I am a little slower. I have tried to implement del.icio.us at least four times, with no avail. Finally, the product is growing on me. In fact, I think I will love it once I organize my tags a little.
I think I finally caught on to the game when I realized what a great research resource was ready to explode in the product. For instance, if I wanted to know all companies in the VOIP space, I just search for VOIP and see what tags pop up. Yes, I do realize that I should have realized this simple fact months ago, but like I said, I am a late adopter.
Another great use is tracking venture financing. There are daily VC/PE wires that track all the recent deals. However, in order to see the financing information at a later date, a log-in to VentureSource or PEHub is required. I have learned that I like to track all the info in my del.ioci.us links as well so that the financing info is right there if I pull up my links. This is a new addition I have added in my tagging, so I will need to re-visit this in a month or so to see if I am actually getting use out of this task.
