In my quest (mentioned in previous blog) to create a research resource, I will make my first entry starting with the concept all finance people will need to use at some time, that of finding stock information.
When searching for stock information, I prefer Google finance. Google has implemented so many many useful tools such as ajax charts, rss feeds, intuitive search, coverage of private companies and industry groups, a sensible web address, no need to look up the tickers, links to Reuters to show full executive bios and compensations, etc. However, and this is a BIG however, they do not have historical information available? Seriously…why can’t I download years of stock information? I feel like I need this capability at least 30% of the time I visit the the Google finance site, and without it available on Google, I am forced to visit their competitor.
Currently, Yahoo and Google make a great complementary service as Yahoo can fill in the gaps Google is missing and vice-a-versa. Yahoo has all the historical data, which can be downloaded directly into excel. Plus Yahoo is more extensive in the industry comparisons.
There are definitely other stock quote sites available, these two just being the ones I prefer.
